Our MUGAs & Ballcourt Types

MUGA types 1 and 2

Types 1 & 2 MUGAs have an open-textured porous tarmac surface ideal for ball rebound sports such as tennis, basketball or netball. These surfaces provide reasonable playing tolerances for a wide range of sports and are therefore a good all-round option. Different sports require acryclic slip-resistant coatings, and we apply according to the primary sport for that surface. These surface types are robust, cost-effective, and require minimal maintenance compared to alternative MUGA surfaces.

MUGA types 3 and 4

We use polymeric surfaces for general sports, recreational training and play. Netball is the primary sport for Type 3, where the surface must meet a slip resistance of TRRL 75. Football is the primary sport for Type 4, where the surface must meet TRRL 55. However, polymeric surfaces are very popular because they provide suitable playing tolerances for a wide range of sports , and therefore considered a good all-round option.

MUGA type 5 and 3G

Artificial grass surface with a pile height of between 40mm – 65mm, with rubber crumb infill and optional UltraMat underlay. The recommended pile height varies depending on the area’s primary sport, but Type 5 MUGA sports pitches is often seen as the ultimate playing surface for football and rugby with the longer pile. Due to high shock absorbency and surface friction these areas are not recommended for high ball rebound sports.

Sand dressed

A synthetic surface with a pile height of between 18mm and 22mm, two thirds of which is dressed with specialist infill sand. It is designed especially for fast paced sports such as hockey.

Sand filled

The original artificial grass surface suitable for a wide range of sports, most commonly football. As the surface is filled with specialist infill sand, play takes place largely on the infill layer, protecting the grass from wear and tear and making it a very durable solution.

Alternative sport pitches

Where a full MUGA construction isn’t required, overlaying existing hard surfaces with artificial grass or polymeric surfacing creates perfect sporting facilities. Extremely popular in primary and junior schools, it provides a very cost-effective solution for tired play surfaces.
