Playcubed redeveloped a large outdoor space used by primary age pupils with PMLD, ASD and SLD. A sensory learning area was also created for secondary age pupils with PMLD. We designed these areas to enhance learning, encourage interaction and communication through multi-sensory activities, in a safe and welcoming environment.

We carried out this project during term time with extremely limited access due to the children’s break times. The large outdoor space was within an internal courtyard, so we managed site logistics had to very carefully to ensure the safety of the children and staff.

With careful planning and considerate design, coupled with a considerate construction programme, this school playground now provides a safe and stimulating sensory space for children with special needsThis means that the teachers have a wealth of resources with which to enrich the children’s learning experience, and enhance every day at Walton Leigh School.

“Playcubed has helped us develop multiple outside areas for our pupils across both our Walton Leigh & Manor Mead School sites. The designs provided ensured we could enhance our outside play and learning areas while still meeting our pupils needs. The project managers liaised with our staff to ensure maximum safety to our pupils and staff during installation. It’s great to see the children really enjoying and benefitting from these new and improved spaces.”
